What do new babies bring...

No one can prepare you for how life changes from 1 child to 2 children but you can try and help the situation by letting this change bring lots of new experiences and things for your eldest. We have been lucky that Harper recieved so much love from her grandparents who were here to chip in while we were adjusting to our new family of four. The adjustment period is still going but most moments of good seem to outweigh the tough moments!

What I have learned so far is that they don't care about the gifts, however great they may be...what they care about is the one on one interaction and the attention that they crave so much more now, especially since someone is taking some of it away. We have noticed some big changes in Harper, her sense of humor is exploding, her patience is growing, her boisterous voice seems to be growing by the day, she is becoming a more sensitive being and she is learning how to love her sister and our new family.

The advice I have been given and what I would pass on...even though I am still learning. Make that one on one time for your eldest, when you can. Now knowing how babies turn out and what they need, it is okay to let that little one cry for a little longer than you normally would to finish that book or give that hug. Lastly, don't wish it away-it goes by faster than you think.

Here are just a few of the things that Baby Reiss brought Harper...

1. A trip to McDonalds for their first sundae, courtesy of Papa and Kat.
2. A trip to the airport to see the airplanes since we are obessed with all modes of transportation these days.
3. Quality time with everyone, especially Dad. Harper and Dad having some playtime alone. (Can I also point out the play-doh that we made on Valentines is still kicking it...yeah!)
4. Child parenting skills. Harper's baby soothing skills kicking in...she has the shhhhshhhhhing down pat!
5. Loads of leisure time. This lady of leisure enjoyed lots of walks with Watson, Papa and Kat.
6. Toys...A new bike/tryke...courtesy of baby Reiss.
7. Even more quality time with Papa!
8. Even more toys...A new baby doll for Harper to focus all her attention on...we will see if this diversion really works or not.

I am jealous that you have a pic of Harper holding Reiss! I am hoping for a sibling shot by the time Rhys can crawl....
